Maria Jose has been working at Ezugi for 4 years and kindly agreed to complete one of my questionnaires.

What is your name please?

My name is Maria Jose.

How old are you? 

I’m 23 years old.

What nationality are you?

I’m from Costa Rica.

What languages do you speak?

I speak Spanish as my first language and English.

What attracted you to become an online live dealer? 

Well, I have friends who work in these kind of casinos and they told me that I should try it, that it is cool and funny so I came and they were right.

Had you had any previous experience of either presenting or dealing live table games? 

No, never.

What skills do you need for the role of a live dealer?

For me the most important is good attitude, with this people will see the best of you.

How long have you been a live dealer?

4 years.

What sort of career progression is available to you?

I can become a Pitboss, but I have also learned a lot from the support guys.

Can you describe a typical day for you at work? 

Ok, many blackjacks for me (I’m kidding). Basically dealing the tables and entertaining all the time.

What other jobs need doing when you’re not dealing at the tables?

Check if all is well or check if my Pitboss needs help.

How long is a typical shift?

8 hrs.

How long do you deal at the same table?

30 minutes in every table.

Training

What training are you given?

The training provided by the company.

Who provides the training?

A trainer.

How long does the training take and do you have to pass tests before you are allowed to deal?

2 weeks.

What does the training involve?

Understanding all the games and all the things you have to do inside of the studio.

Do you have to be trained in all the games before you are allowed to deal for real? 

Yes.

Dealing

Do you need a license to be able to deal live casino games and if so who provides it?

No I don’t.

Is your on table performance measured? If so, in what way? 

Yes, my table performance is measured by my Pitboss.

How do you know when you’re doing a good job?

When the customers tell me.

How important is the chat facility?

It is so important because you can interact with the customers and this makes it more fun.

Do you have prepared questions to get players talking?

No.

What subjects are you not allowed to talk about?

About personal information.

Was there anything that surprised you about being a live dealer?

Yes, I never imagined talking with so many people from different countries.

Technology

When you are dealing what information do you have in front of you?

The chat and the game system.

What info do you have about the player?

Their nicknames, when they joined and leave.

Do you know how much people are betting?

No, I don’t know.

Personal

Do you play casino games yourself?

I have played like twice.

What is your favourite game? and why?

Blackjack, because I like dealing that game.

What is the best part about your job?

When I have full Blackjack tables because the time flies. You feel like you work for 2 hrs, but really you worked 8.

What’s the best thing about working for Ezugi?

I am growing as a dealer and I’m learning a lot of things that I didn’t know.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at work? 

A day that I sneezed and something came out from my mouth ha-ha!

What do your friends think of your job?

I had to explain it to them because they didn’t understand, Now they think my job is cool and relaxed.

If you could choose 7 people to deal blackjack to who would they be and why?

• My father, because he is the love of my life.
• My sister, because she knows nothing about casinos so it will be so funny. 
• My grandpas, because they are dead so I will love to see them once again. 
• My niece (Valentina) because she is so funny
• Dani Alves , because he is a soccer player (my favorite one) and there’s such a different between playing blackjack and playing soccer.
• Marilyn Monroe, because she used to be the most beautiful girl.

What are your hobbies.

I like to sing and dance but actually I’m not a good singer so my favorite hobby is dancing.

What is your favorite holiday destination and why?.

I love go to the beach or the mountains, especially if it’s with the people that I love.

Do you have any pets, if so what are they and what are their names.

Yes, I have one dog and her name is Campanita.

What sorts of music do you like and why?

I like any kind of music, anything that I can dance to is good for me.

Have you been to any concerts recently? If so what and how was it?

Yes, I went to Marc Anthony concert and it was so good. He is a really good artist and I really enjoyed it and danced a lot.

If you could have a super power for a day what would it be and what would you do?

I would like the power to clean all of our planet and make people care about the Earth.

Do you play or watch sport?

Yes of course, I play sometimes and watch soccer and basketball.

What is your favourite food?

My favorite food is Spaghetti with chicken in white sauce.
