You’d be wrong if you thought you’d seen the last Lightning range of games.
Evolution has created Lightning Lotto Live, a lottery-based game with lighting multipliers.
The concept is quite straightforward. You buy a lottery ticket containing six numbers. Two numbers between 1 and 25 are randomly chosen as lightning numbers with multiplier values between 2x and 10x. If your card contains one of the numbers, your payout will be multiplied by that number should you win.
A minimum of three numbers is needed for a ticket to win!
You can play up to 500 lottery tickets in this fast and fun game.
In this review, I’ll explain how to play Lightning Lotto Live, give you my thoughts on what I think and how it compares with Mega Ball. I’ll also briefly look at playing strategies and where you can play this game online.

Lightning Lotto Live is a blend of a live lottery game and Evolutions’ now famous “lightning” capability, where standard payouts are boosted through randomly generated multipliers.
This is not the first live dealer lottery game, as other producers like Betgames and Vivo Gaming have had them for years. But this is the first to use a limited number combination and multipliers.
If you’re looking for a similar game, Evolution Mega Ball comes closest. While Mega Ball is a bingo-based game, the way the game operates is very similar, so if you’ve enjoyed one, you’ll enjoy the other.
Unlike a regular lottery where you’re responsible for picking the numbers, an RNG engine in Lighting Lotto does it for you.
Every card contains a random set of numbers, with the first five numbers picked from a pool of twenty-five numbers and the sixth number selected from a range between 1 to 10.
This sixth number is known as the Powerball Number.
The playing interface is set up to make purchasing and selecting tickets easy.
It’s possible to play up to 500 tickets at the same time.
Options exist to purchase tickets in blocks of 1 ticket, 25 Tickets, 50 Tickets and 100 Tickets. You select the value you want to play each ticket for, and the playing interface does the rest. You see the Total Bet displayed below each of the purchase options.
Once betting time has closed, two Lightning numbers are randomly selected from numbers 1 to 25. They have a value of between 2x and 10x.
It’s possible to have two lightning numbers on one card. When that’s the case, they are added together, giving a total multiplier for that ticket. Tickets with a lightning multiplier are known in the game as Lightning tickets.
You can spot the lightning tickets because they have the multiplier value displayed at the beginning of the ticket, and the whole ticket is encapsulated in a lightning cloud.
Five balls are drawn from 25 balls in the first ball-drawing machine.
Then one ball is drawn from 10 balls from the Powerball machine.
As the balls are drawn, the playing interface re-sorts all the tickets in play, listing the ones closest to winning at the top.
Once the last ball has been drawn, the winning tickets are displayed in front of you, and you’ll receive the payouts for the number of balls you have on each ticket.
The payouts are quite straightforward.
A lottery ticket with three numbers wins 1:1; four wins 49:1. Five numbers 499:1, and six numbers 4999:1.
The payouts can be further boosted by the lighting numbers, which have values between 2x and 10x, making the highest payout possible a whopping 99,999:1!
The published RTP for Lightning Lotto is 96.08%.
Before we start with strategies for the lightning lotto, let’s look at the Odds and Probabilities of getting a winning ticket. From there, we can decide the best method for playing.
The Probability of having winning numbers on a lottery ticket, where the first five numbers are chosen and drawn from twenty-five balls and the sixth number is selected, and drawn from ten numbers, are:
As you can see, the odds are already stacked against you, and when you look at the payouts for each category, they fall woefully short of a fair payout without a lightning number.
The chance of getting 6 number matches with a 20x multiplier will vary depending on the number of tickets bought. If you’ve purchased one ticket, the chance is approximately one in 5.6 billion; if you’ve bought 500 tickets, it is approximately one in 2.2 million.
The lightning number boosts the wins to something more in line with the actual odds, but this still leaves a healthy house edge of 3.92%!
Firstly, I don’t buy more than ten tickets. Having more tickets doesn’t increase your chances of making a profit. If anything, it almost guarantees you’ll lose over the long term.
My advice and what I do is to play no more than ten tickets, and I’ll tell you why.
You wouldn’t buy 500 tickets if you were playing the National Lottery, so why start now?
Autoplay is a great way to repeat the same bet for a set number of game rounds.
As you’re not physically picking numbers on the tickets, there’s no problem using Autoplay to repeat the same bets.
I set it up for 20 games at a time, playing ten tickets at between 0.20 – 0.50 a ticket.
This allows me to track what I bet, win and lose.
Lightning Lotto and Mega Ball are very different games but have some common features. If you want an edgier game with more going on, Mega Ball is an excellent alternative to Lightning Lotto.
Mega Ball uses Bingo cards, so you get payouts for completed lines on cards. Each card contains 24 numbers, and you can play up to 400 cards. The multipliers are assigned at the end of the game, where a multiplier value is chosen before the last ball is drawn. You get the multiplier payout if the ball completes a line on a card.
There’s more going on in Mega Ball and more balls in the bingo machine, fifty-one, as opposed to twenty-five in Lightning Lotto.
The RTP is lower on Mega Ball at 95.05%, so the potential return is not as good, but the payouts are bigger, with a maximum possible win of 999,999:1!
Lightning Lotto is a more straightforward game and probably a good way to start if you want to try bouncing ball machine entertainment games.
Lightning Lotto compliments the other bouncing ball live bingo games Evolution has previously released. Unlike the bingo game, where cards have multiple lines, Lighting Lotto has just a single line of six randomly generated numbers. The Powerball gives a one in ten chance of matching the sixth number on a ticket.
The lightning numbers boost the payout of tickets if you happen to have one on your ticket. You don’t need to get the number; having it on the ticket is enough to boost any wins.
Base wins are very low. A three-number win only pays 1:1, which is way below the true odds of about 12:1.
Playing up to 500 tickets is great for Evolution but not for the player. You can’t possibly follow what’s going on.
Part of the fun of playing the lottery is being able to pick your numbers. While it’s impossible to pick numbers for loads of cards (up to 500) yourself, just having the RNG engine do it for you for all cards somewhat defeats the point of the lottery, in my opinion.
It would be nice if there were an option to allow you to pick your numbers for a few cards. I understand how this may slow the game down, but surely it’s about player enjoyment rather than how many game rounds you can fit into an hour!
I think Lighting Lotto is OK, but I can’t see it being a game you’d play for ages. It just doesn’t hold your attention and provide any variety.
Lightning Lotto is a lottery-based live dealer game from Evolution with its famous multipliers, which boost payouts.
The maximum multiplier is 20x, given for two 10x multipliers on one ticket. This provides a maximum payout of 99,999:1 for six numbers.
The two games are different. One is a single-line game, and the other is a bingo game with multiple lines on a Bingo card. The payouts are better on Mega Ball, while Lightning Lotto is a more straightforward game with which most people will be familiar.
The RTP is 96.08%.
There is no strategy. You don’t get to pick the ticket numbers and do not influence the balls as they are drawn from the machine. The only system is how many cards you should play, which I recommend to be no more than ten.
Lightning Lotto can be played at all Evolution Casinos. My current recommendation is PlayOjo.
