Ecuador plans to introduce technology from US company Palantir to help monitor financial transactions across its regulated sports betting industry. The country’s Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE) is expected to begin using the platform in January 2027.
The system will analyse financial information to help investigators identify unusual transaction patterns and potential money laundering. José Julio Neira, Ecuador’s Secretary of Public Administration and former UAFE director, said the technology would be funded through an agreement with the US government. He stated that the funding would provide US$8 million annually for access to the licence.
The rollout accompanies new sports betting licensing procedures introduced in October. Operators must connect wagers, deposits, payments and prize withdrawals to identifiable customers, meet technical standards and prevent minors from accessing betting services.
Since April 2026, licensed betting businesses have also been required to report suspicious transactions to UAFE and maintain internal anti-money laundering controls.
The new platform is intended to strengthen analysis of the information already being reported. Neira said the objective is not to prohibit sports betting, but to improve oversight of operators and the origin of funds moving through the industry.
