Introduction to Double Ball Roulette

In case you haven't played Double Ball Roulette yet, be prepared to be amazed. In this version of roulette, you're playing with not one ball, but two.

That leads to an interesting range of bets that culminate with the 1,300-to-1 jackpot!

Players have a choice of going for outside bets, that have doubled payouts but both balls must be successful, or inside bets, that have halved payouts but only one ball must be a success – and if both win you get a full payout.

In this article, you'll learn how Double Ball Roulette works, how to play it, what the odds and payouts are, which online casinos have the game, and most importantly – which is the correct strategy to use to win.

Double Ball Roulette Rules

Throughout this article, I'll be talking about the live dealer Double Ball Roulette by Evolution that uses a single-zero wheel and is the only live dealer version online.

You'll find it at selected casinos that feature Evolution live dealer software.

Automated versions do exist, in both single-zero and double-zero wheel formats, but I have no doubt the Evolution product is by far the best you can play.

Here is a breakdown of the most important things about this game:

  • The ordinary single-zero European wheel is used.
  • Most of the layout is the same as conventional roulette.
  • Two balls are used at the same time.
  • Both balls must be successful for outside bets to win.
  • Either ball must be successful for inside bets to win, and if both are successful the win is doubled.
  • For the Jackpot bet to win, both balls must land in the same selected number.
  • As two balls are in play, normal bets are paid at roughly 50% of standard roulette - because. you get two chances to win on every spin.

How do they manage to spin two balls on the roulette wheel without them hitting one another?

The answer is simple, they use compressed air to shoot the balls almost at the same time.

The second ball is always trailing the first ball by one second. The first ball will always land in a pocket first because of that small time gap between the release of the two balls.

Can both balls land on the same number?

Indeed they can, there's enough room for both balls to hit the same number, and the chance of that happening is 1 / 37 x 1 / 37 = 1 / 1,369.

Since the double ball jackpot is 1300 to 1, this means the house edge on this particular bet is around 5% and it's therefore not a very good bet to make.

I might also add that due to the time gap between the release of the two balls, the balls have a tendency of landing apart from one another. The chance of both balls landing at the same number is probably even lower than the pure mathematical chance of 1 / 1,369.

When betting on inside bets (Straight Up, Split, Street, Corner, Line) that offer two chances to win in Double Ball Roulette, you'll be hoping for both balls to be successful.

These bets don't suffer from the problem described above which stems from the time gap between the release of the two balls.

Live Double Ball Roulette by Evolution

Double Ball Roulette by Evolution is a live dealer European roulette with two balls that offers twice the fun and, among other things, a 1,300:1 jackpot.

The game was launched in May 2016 and is presently the only live dealer two ball roulette available on the market.

The theoretical return to player (RTP) is 97.30%, which means that the house edge is 2.70%. The minimum bet is £0.25, while the maximum allowed bet depends on which casino you're playing at and what bet you're making.

The game is streamed from studios in Malta and Latvia. The game is available for desktop computers and mobile devices.

Double Ball Roulette Odds and Pay Table

As there are two balls in play in the wheel the payouts for Double Ball roulette have been adjusted to cater to two outcomes when you bet.

If you place an outside bet, both of the balls need to land with the correct result for you to receive a payout.

If you're placing an inside bet only one of the balls has to come in for you to win. The payouts however are generally half you'd get on regular European roulette.

Outside bets

Outside bets are played a bit differently than in traditional single ball roulette.

They are highlighted in the playing interface in Gold, so you can't miss them.

You need both balls to succeed in order to win your bet, but the payouts are more generous.

These are the types of outside bets available.

Inside bets and the 1300-to-1 Jackpot

Inside bets are a bit special and I could say this is the reason why I'm playing this version of roulette in the first place.

The usual way of betting on inside bets is to bet on a single number or one of the other options such as Split or Street and win money if the ball lands where you wanted it to. You get one chance.

In Double Ball Roulette, you get two chances to win.

For the following bets, you only need one ball to land in the correct pocket to win the bet as shown in the pay table below. If both balls land in the correct pocket, your winnings will be doubled as you'll win the bet twice!

BetsDescriptionPayout
Straight UpA bet on any single number17:1
SplitA bet placed on the line between any two numbers, either horizontal or vertical8:1
StreetA bet on any 3 horizontal numbers in a row, e.g 1-2-3 or 7-8-9.5:1

LineA bet covering two adjoining Streets, so 6 numbers are covered.2:1

Furthermore, if both balls land on the selected number, you'll win the 1,300:1 jackpot!

Called Bets

You also have an option of betting on called bets; you'll see a race track on the bottom right of your screen, to make this process easier.

These all bets to be placed for sections of the wheel, and are generally split bets or straight up number bets.

The payouts are the same as for the Inside Bets.

Double Ball Roulette Strategy and Tips

When playing Double Ball Roulette, you have a decision to make.

Go with a low-variance approach of betting on inside bets, or go with a high-risk high-reward approach of playing outside bets.

Most players, myself included, like to take advantage of the lower variance of inside bets compared to traditional single ball roulette as well as take a shot at the 1,300:1 jackpot.

Inside bets offer payouts from 2:1 to 17:1 so you can risk a little or a lot.

The Line bet is the safest bet you can make, with a 2 to 1 payout that is doubled if both balls win. This chance of getting a double win is what makes this bet so attractive, in my opinion.

Outside bets, in contrast, offer increased payouts but a reduced chance to win.

I personally think variance is already high enough in roulette, and increasing it further may lead to prolonged losing streaks.

All successful Double Ball Roulette strategies will likely revolve around the inside bets and the jackpot. As these are the two strong points, you should play these as much as possible.
