Belgian betting and gaming company Gaming1 has agreed to acquire the holding company behind Carousel Group as it expands its presence in the country’s online casino market.
Gaming1 has agreed to purchase 100% of the shares in Pac-Man NV, the company behind Carousel Group. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
The deal follows a long-standing relationship between Gaming1 and Carousel Group dating back to 2012. Once completed, Gaming1 will take control of Pac-Man NV’s Belgian licence and digital operations.
Acquisition expands Gaming1’s Belgian presence
The transaction will give Gaming1 additional access to the Belgian online casino market through Carousel Group’s existing digital operations and licence.
Gaming1 already operates 777, which SBC News reported as the fifth-largest online casino brand in Belgium according to Blask. The acquisition therefore expands the company’s existing position in the market.
The deal comes while Belgium’s gambling sector continues to adapt to regulatory changes. Gaming1 said the transaction would strengthen its digital presence and support its activities within the regulated Belgian market.
The company also said the acquisition would not involve the transfer of employees between Gaming1 and Carousel Group.
Integration process to begin
Gaming1 expects the integration of the acquired business to begin shortly after completion. The absence of employee transfers is expected by the company to support a smooth integration process between the businesses.
Sylvain Boniver, Chief Operating Officer of Gaming1, said the acquisition would strengthen the company’s digital presence in Belgium and contribute to its plans for its regulated-market offering.
Boniver also said the transaction would support Gaming1’s ambition to provide a safe and responsible gaming proposition in Belgium.
Carousel Group separates from 711
The acquisition changes the relationship between Carousel Group and 711, a major Dutch gaming company.
Carousel Group was owned through Pac-Man NV, which is linked to the De Backer family, the Dutch business family that also owns 711. The transaction therefore separates Carousel Group from that ownership structure.
The sale comes as 711 pursues its own international expansion strategy. According to reporting cited by SBC News, the Dutch operator is already active in Belgium and has also been developing its presence in Malta.
The move allows the two businesses to pursue separate strategies across their respective markets.
Gaming1 continues Belgian expansion
The Carousel Group acquisition gives Gaming1 additional digital operations in Belgium at a time when the company is continuing to develop its online casino presence.
The transaction includes Pac-Man NV’s Belgian licence and digital business, extending Gaming1’s existing activities in its domestic market.
Gaming1 said the deal would strengthen its position while supporting its approach to regulated online gaming. Integration is expected to begin imminently, with no employee transfers planned between the two organisations.
The acquisition represents another development in the Belgian online casino market as operators continue to adjust their strategies around regulation, digital expansion and consolidation.
