Betgames Suspends Operation of Satta Matka and Andar Bahar

Betgames has announced it will temporarily suspend operations of Indian live casino games, Satta Matka and Andar Bahar, effective the 31st of October 2023, citing the introduction of the new turnover tax in the Indian Market as the reason for this decision.

India’s Goods and Council Tax Council (GST) announced a flat 28% turnover tax for online gambling, casino and horse race betting. The GST Council declared the decision during its 50th GST Council meeting in July 2023.

Unsurprisingly, the Indian Government has introduced such a tax, as the total revenue for 2023 in the online gambling industry is $2.72 billion. By 2027, it is expected to amount to $3.77 billion. A 28% tax will certainly help fill the government’s coffers.

Betgames is not the first to exit the market, with several high-profile brands making a similar exit since the announcement in July.
