Spain’s Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has introduced a new framework that combines players’ deposits across all licensed online gambling operators. The system establishes daily, weekly and four-week deposit limits designed to strengthen consumer protection and prevent players from bypassing spending restrictions by moving between different platforms.
Under the new framework, the combined deposit limits are:
| Period | Maximum deposits |
|---|---|
| Daily | €700 |
| Weekly | €1,750 |
| Four weeks | €3,300 |
The new system addresses a weakness in Spain’s previous approach, under which limits applied separately at individual operators. Players with accounts on multiple platforms could therefore make deposits across several businesses, potentially exceeding the spending limits they would encounter at a single operator.
The DGOJ says the change will particularly benefit the approximately one-third of Spain’s registered player base who hold active accounts with multiple operators.
Changes to Deposit Limit Adjustments
Players will be able to change or remove their limits once every three months. Requests will take three business days to process and will include educational resources explaining gambling-related risks.
The framework is currently in a testing phase and is available for use ahead of its formal launch on 26 March 2027.
By aggregating deposits across licensed platforms, the regulator aims to give players a more consistent system of financial controls, regardless of how many gambling accounts they hold.
New Portal Provides a Consolidated View of Gambling Activity
Alongside the deposit limits framework, the DGOJ has introduced a player portal that brings together information previously distributed across individual operators.
The portal allows users to review deposits, stakes, winnings and losses across licensed gambling platforms. It also enables players to configure alerts relating to their spending and gambling activity, as well as manage their combined deposit limit.
The regulator says these tools are intended to improve transparency and give consumers a clearer picture of their overall gambling behaviour.
A Broader Approach to Player Protection
The combined framework represents a shift from operator-specific controls towards a more centralised approach to monitoring gambling expenditure. Instead of relying on individual platforms to manage limits independently, the system is designed to consider a player’s activity across the licensed market.
For operators, the framework introduces a shared approach to deposit restrictions and makes cross-platform coordination an important part of compliance. For consumers, the centralised portal offers a single place to monitor gambling activity and manage spending controls.
The rollout also reflects the increasing role of technology in Spain’s regulatory approach, combining centralised data with spending limits and player-facing tools.
The formal launch is scheduled for March 2027, giving the sector time to prepare for the new system while the testing phase continues.
