Playtech Has Changed Quantum Blackjack

Quantum Blackjack, Playtechs flagship live dealer blackjack game with multipliers has been given an update.

A number of playing rules have changed that have increased the playability and dare I say the enjoyment factor.

In this article, I’ll explain the differences between the two versions and you can watch a full video review to see how the game is played.

Quantum Blackjack is Now Quantum Blackjack Plus

Playtech has given Quantum Blackjack an overhaul and has relaunched the game as Quantum Blackjack Plus.

Quantum Blackjack is all about multipliers, with the original version making it possible to hit a maximum multiplier of 1000x. The chances of that happening were slim, to say the least.

If you’re new to quantum Blackjack I’ll quickly recap how to play, so you can understand the impact of some of the changes.

Recap on How Quantum Blackjack is played

The game is played as normal Blackjack, with one rule change. A winning players hand becomes a push if the dealer busts with 3 cards.

Multipliers are assigned to up to 5 randomly selected cards at the beginning of the game round. If the player’s hand is dealt one or more of these cards the combined total is applied to the initial stake as the payout if the hand beats the dealer.

All other normal blackjack rules apply.

How Quantum Blackjack Plus differs from the previous version

Quantum Blackjack Plus differs in a number of ways from the original version of Quantum Blackjack.

  1. Six decks of cards are used instead of eight.
  2. Either three or five cards are selected each game round. Before it was up to five cards.
  3. All cards are now assigned the same multiplier value of either x2.5, x3, x5 or x10.
  4. The maximum multiplier is now x50 (it was 1000x), as it’s possible to have 5 multiplier cards in one hand.
  5. Multiple multiplier cards in one hand are now added together, rather than multiplied together.
  6. The RTP has increased from 99.47% to 99.57%.
  7. Split cards can be doubled.
  8. The RTP of the side bets has been reduced marginally.

What Do These Changes Mean?

The changes mean the game is more playable.

By that I mean there are always more multiplier cards available on each game round. While there are fewer cards to match within the shoe, due to their being 2 fewer decks, the fact an Auto Shuffler means the difference is negligible.

The changes also mean it’s sometimes worth deviating from basic strategy if there is an opportunity to split a hand to obtain a multiplier, without putting the main hand at risk. i.e you might split 10’s for example when the dealer is showing a 6. Basic Strategy would normally have you stand, as that is the value bet. It’s riskier to split, but the reward is a potentially higher payout.

Are the changes for the better?

In my limited experience of playing and analysing the game, I’d say a definite yes.

I don’t like the rule of a Push with a dealer 3 card bust, and the fact that the initial stake is not returned with the payout when there is a multiplier in the hand. So the true odds are less than advertised.

Where You Can Play Quantum Blackjack Plus?

Quantum Blackjack Plus can be played at all Playtech Casinos. They have replaced the old version with the new one, so there is no way to access the old game. Just look out for it in the Blackjack Lobby of these casinos.
