Stan James Live Casino Review

Stan James live casino has been closed down. All player accounts and games have been migrated to Unibet Casino.

The Pros

  • Nice clean Interface
  • Good stake options
  • Dedicated Roulette and Blackjack Tables
  • Evolution Software

The Cons

  • No Bonus

Stan James is part of the Kindred group of casinos & in late 2017 they announced the closure of the Casino.

Stan James is no longer operational, but all games and player accounts have been migrated over to their sister site Unibet.

Goto Unibet Live Casino

I’ve always had a soft spot for Stan James. They were one of the first live casinos that I reviewed on Live Casino Comparer, so I was disappointed in late 2015 when they removed their live casino from their website. It had something to do with Amaya (the software provider they were using), closing operations in Europe.

I never did find out the reason, so at the time I advised people to play at the BetVictor live casino instead.

Then in early 2016 things changed and Unibet bought out Stan James. I like many others thought they’d close the brand. But it seems they had a soft spot too, they kept it going and enhanced its product offering.

In mid-2016 Unibet re-instated the Stan James Live Casino and I’m pleased to say that they implemented an Evolution Gaming Live Casino.

Not surprising as Unibet are a big customer of Evolutions.

Game Summary

There are 7 live casino games.

  • Blackjack

There are loads of Blackjack tables to suit all level of players and what’s really great is Stan James players have access to the Unibet private dedicated tables. This makes a huge difference when it’s busy as you’ll generally find it much easier to get a seat. The game is played with Vegas Rules (dealer takes two cards) from an 8 deck shoe. Side bets of Bet Behind, Perfect Pair and 21+3 are available on all tables.  Multi seat is also an option.

  • Roulette

There are loads of European Roulette tables with a few that are dedicated to Unibet and Stan James players. La Partage can be found on the French Roulette Gold table and there are specific language tables for German, Flemish & Benelux players.

Immersive and Immersive Lite tables are popular with their multi camera streaming. Out of the two I prefer the Immersive lite with its different display options. For players that like fast play there is also a range of Automatic Roulette tables where a real wheel is spun by computer.

Dual play Roulette streamed from the Dragonara casino is also an option if you like playing along real customers in a land based casino setting.

  • Baccarat

This comes in two forms, with or without the Squeeze and is played using 8 decks. The tables have a very comprehensive set of roadmaps and whilst the game presentation is excellent there are only a few sidebets on offer. In terms of a viewing experience this is probably the best baccarat game in town.

  • Casino Hold’em

This is a single deck, multi player game, where all players bet on the same hand. The side bets can be played without making an ante bet.

  • 3 Card Poker

3 card poker is one of my favorite games, but boy can it kick your ass sometimes. Played with one deck, it’s a one to many game, with multiple players betting on the same hand. The 6 card bonus side bet is worth a punt but don’t expect to win big unless you are playing it and hit one of the major hands.

  • Caribbean Stud Poker

The newest of Evolution tables games and fast becoming one of it’s most popular games. This is played from one deck with multi players betting on the same card.

The real action is with the 5+1 Bonus which has some cracking payouts. Not a game for someone with a short chip stack as you can lose before you get a decent hand. Another game that I’m beginning to love!

  • Ultimate Texas Hold’em

Another new game from Evolution. Ultimate Texas Hold’em is played from one deck and unlike Casino Hold’em you get the chance to bet on three occasions as the cards are dealt. You can bet up to 4 times your initial ante bet once you’ve been dealt your cards. All you have to do is beat the dealer with a better 5 card poker hand. I expect that this game will prove to be the most popular of the poker derived games offered by Evolution.

Playability & Software

The Evolution Software has under gone a bit of a makeover recently and now all games are streamed in wide screen and in full HD quality depending on your connection speed.

The software is intelligent enough to detect your connection and optimise the stream to maintain the best game experience.

If you’ve got a dodgy connection as I do sometimes, your streamed images may be replaced with computer generated alternatives. It’s the same game just with less bandwidth being consumed.

The lobby area is nice and big with the game choice laid out nicely along the top. You pick a game and then all the available tables are displayed below.

For the more popular games like Blackjack and Roulette you have to scroll down the screen and this can be a bit of a faff. I actually preferred the older interface in this respect.

All tables show their current status. For Roulette you can see the winning number history and for Blackjack the number of seats available. Full stake information is shown with the Min and Max bets. You have to load each roulette table to be able to see the max table bet.

Each of the software interfaces for the games comes with a common set of options, like being able to select, repeat or undo bets.

Sound and Video can be controlled as can the view of the table and the size of the screen. For the best experience go fullscreen.

It’s actually difficult to criticise the interface and play ability and anything I do notice is just being picky.

I certainly feel that this is a great bit of software and if you haven’t tried it you should.

Banking Options

The Stan James live casino accepts UK Debit Cards, Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafecard and Bank Transfers as deposit and withdrawal options, but unfortunately you will not be able to play at Stan James if you reside in China, Hong Kong, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Brazil, Ukraine, Latvia, Israel, France, Denmark and Spain.

Security is licensed by the Gibraltar Licensing Authority under the Gambling Act 2005 and is regulated by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority.

I’ve played, deposited and withdrawn and have not experienced any issues. The general feedback from players and forums across the internet is that Stan James is a trusted casino, who treat players fairly and offer good support.

Bonuses & Loyalty Points

The standard welcome bonus does not extend to live casino games.

24 x 7 Support is available via email and online chat. I found the online chat very good when I was having problems sorting out my forgotten password.

In summary, the Stan James live casino uses the best software around and being owned by Unibet all players will get access to the Unibet dedicated tables.

The stake levels are slightly lower at Stan James than at Unibet but this is only really a problem if you’re a high roller.
