Live Casino Game Volatility: Best High and Low Volatility Options Among Live Dealer Games

Have you ever wondered if it’s better to gamble on a game that promises a massive win to one lucky player or to grind a game that gives you a 50-50 chance of winning?

These two completely different types of games appeal to two completely different types of players. If you’re on the fence about which one to choose, or want an insight into why the other camp plays the games they do, read on.

In this article, I’ll explore the volatility of live dealer games and explain the best options. If you want small wins frequently and avoid losing too much, this would be perceived as low volatility. If you want to win less regularly but when you do win with a small bet, you win big, this means the game has high volatility.

We’ll start with the high-volatility games. In other words, games in which you wager some of your disposable income in the hope of landing that mega win.

High Volatility Live Casino Games: Money Wheels

Without fail, all the high volatility live casino games where you can bet on something known to produce a win of 1000x or more will be entertainment shows.

More precisely, wheel-of-fortune type games.

Let’s look at the maximum win from some money wheel games. Here is a selection of those where you can win big.

GameBet OnProbabilityPossible Win
Monopoly Live4 Rolls1.85%~2000x
Monopoly Live2 Rolls5.55%~1000x
Crazy TimeCrazy Time1.85%up to 5,000x
Crazy TimePachinko3.70%up tp 4,000x
Crazy TimeCash Hunt3.70%up to 10,000x
Crazy TimeCoin Flip7.41%up to 3,000x
Money Drop Liven/an/a5,000x
Funky TimeVIP DISCO1.56%capped at £500,000

Take the above maximum wins with a grain of salt.

I tried to find the maximum win you can reasonably expect. Results of these bonus rounds vary wildly, of course. Sometimes you don’t win much at all. But this is all about giving yourself a chance.

In Crazy Time, which is probably the most popular live dealer money wheel game, all the most significant wins come from the Cash Hunt bonus round. A win multiplier of 25,000x has been recorded, with several more in the 10,000x range.

The Crazy Time bonus round has reached 5,000x, and all four bonus rounds can reach these heights. It’s just that Cash Hunt does it most often, followed by Crazy Time.

Coin Flip and Pachinko appear here less often. If you’d want to benefit from the volatility of this game, you’d constantly have to bet on the Cash Hunt and Crazy Time bonus rounds.

High Volatility Live Casino Games: Notable Mentions

Also consider Live Spin a Win that has paid 3920x in the past, Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt Live, as well as Lightning Roulette and Xxxtreme Lightning Roulette, where win multipliers on straight-up numbers can go up to 500x and 2000x, respectively.

Cash or Crash has a potential 18,000x prize that can go up to 50,000x if a golden ball has been drawn.

All these games have a higher risk of losing your bankroll quickly. Certain parts of the games are designed to give small wins and turn your bankroll over many times.

The bonus rounds, in particular, are highly volatile, meaning you won’t get them that often, and when you do, you might not win much. Only once in a while will the payout be substantial.

When playing these games, you must mix your strategies and decide what is important to you. If you want a long play time – these are probably not your games.

Are Side Bets Worth It?

As you browse the games to look for big payouts, you’ll find games such as Blackjack, Baccarat, Teen Patti, Sic Bo, and others offer increased payouts through several fun side bets.

These promise an escape from the 1:1 payout but at a very high expense. These bets have such poor RTP that they’re never worth playing.

So I won’t even bother listing them as high-variance gambling options. The payouts aren’t big anyway, so they don’t represent a viable high-variance option. I advise not exploring this further.

Low Volatility: The 50-50 Games

Regarding low volatility, the lowest you can get is seemingly the two-sided bets you get in Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat, Sic Bo, or anything else that resembles a coin flip and has roughly a 50% chance of winning.

You’ll play these casino games precisely because they’re elaborate coin flips. The general idea is that you can try to win over 50% and profit. With roulette, baccarat and Sic Bo, it will be mostly about luck; with blackjack, it’s a matter of skill and luck!

Some players drift towards using betting strategies too quickly to try to win above 50% and make a profit. This is a lousy strategy in games like roulette because the game is wildly unpredictable. Progressive betting strategies would probably work better in blackjack.

The only way to win money from coin flip games is to recognize when you’re ahead and quit at that precise point.

In any 50-50 game, you’ll have winning and losing streaks. If you find you’re up, you have achieved your goal and should quit and walk away with the money.

Of all the games described above, blackjack probably offers the best chance of winning and the lowest actual volatility, but only if you follow the correct strategy.

Going Beyond the 50% Win Probability

There are several ways to go beyond the 50% chance to win.

You can cover more of the wheel in roulette, increasing your win rate and reducing the variance. You can do the same in all money wheel games, such as Dream Catcher, by placing bets on more than 50% of the wheel.

For example, in Monopoly Live, you can cover the entire wheel except for the 1x bet that appears on 22 segments, and you’d have a 32 / 54 = 59% chance of at least getting 2x back on a 5-unit bet.

A similar strategy can be applied to Crazy Time, the most popular live money wheel game. If you cover all the bonus rounds – Pachinko, Cash Hunt, Coin Flip and Crazy Time – you placed four bets and cover 9 / 54 segments. If you also place bets on 2x, 5x and 10x, you cover 33 / 54 segments for a 61% chance to win.

Of course, it’s obvious right away this isn’t a very good strategy to follow, and I’m only mentioning it to guide you towards a strategy that would include a chance to win above 50%.

It will always have the largest chance of winning less than your total bet in exchange for not losing as often. Another benefit is you’re covering all the bonus rounds, so you won’t miss them when they land.

This type of strategy has the lowest variance among live dealer games.

The most extreme example would be placing 35 straight-up number bets on roulette, hoping the two numbers you didn’t place a bet on won’t land.

This is a lousy strategy where you win less than 3% on top of your total bet when you win, more precisely 2.80% when the chance to win is 94.60%.

Some roulette players see greater success, or at least they avoid frustration when the ball barely misses the pocket by placing bets on wheel segments.

For example, Voisins du Zero is a bet on a total of seventeen numbers on Zero’s side of the roulette wheel, Zero included. You’ll win the most in this bet if the ball lands on 0, 2 or 3.

Conclusion

It’s almost universally accepted that, if you’re already gambling, you should give yourself a chance to win big instead of trying to tame the 50-50 games by winning 1 unit more than you lose. Because all you’ll ever win in the latter example is that 1 unit.

If you play high-variance games, you can relax – you’re not taming that one. It’s a case of sitting back and letting lady luck determine your outcome.

If you want to win big, it’s better to place a straight-up bet on a number on roulette and win 35x than it is to place a bet on Red and hope the coin flip goes your way to double your money. You’ll lose more times than you win, but you must suck it up to get the bigger payouts!

So, if you want big wins, try out the 1000x plus games for small stakes. Read the playing and strategy guides on LiveCasinoComparer.com to educate yourself about the odds and probabilities of the game you’re looking to play.

Security – How good is the reputation of the casino amongst other players? Do they hold a valid gaming license? Are they transparent about the security measures they have in place? Are they regularly audited? Do they publish this information?

Support – Do they have multiple methods for communication with me? Is support available 24×7? Do they have instant chat and are they quick to respond? Are they able to help me immediately? Do they have an online FAQ and self-help library? Are the support people knowledgeable about the product I’m playing?
